Their joint creative genius continues to dazzle with such colorful imagination and delightful characters. I introduce to you kitties, the new Tokidoki for Hello Kitty Circus Collection!

Tokidoki creative designer, Simone Legno, is one ringmaster that never fails to entertain his fans! The fusion of the Tokidoki whimsical elements and the iconic Hello Kitty produces such beautiful characters featuring Hello Kitty as a daring ringleader, a tightrope acrobat, a cutesy clown, and a circus rider.

With the winter chill fast approaching, my absolute favorite item from the circus collection has to be the colorful throw blanket! Per Tokidoki tradition, the large polyester blanket gives the spectator a close-up peek into the magical world of a Hello Kitty themed circus fiasco. From balancing acts, lion tamers, jugglers, and ring tossing all under one tent, the throw blanket wraps you up in warmth and keeps you delightfully entertained!

After you get snuggled in your throw blanket, be sure to prop yourself up with a coordinating square cushion pillow! You just can’t have one without the other! The soft polyester fibers will soothe you into a comfy snooze. The red tassels on each corner give the circus finishing touch!

For the Hello Kitty fashionistas, the circus collection presents various carrying pieces featuring the special circus print that come in all shapes and sizes! April has come to an end! Time for kitty confessions because it was National Honest Day on April 30! April started off with trickery on April Fools’ Day, so it would be rightfully expected to finish the month with some revealing truth: Hello Kitty is not a cat! However, that cat, I meant “cat looking girl,” is already out of the bag.
     

 




To be honest, whether Hello Kitty is a cat or girl, it makes no difference. She is whatever you want her to be. Hello Kitty is a global phenomenon guaranteed to be forever loved by all the generations, past, present, and future. She wears many different hats as evidenced by the endless and timeless collections and collaborations.

One of my all time favorites has to be Tokidoki x Hello Kitty. How many kitties wake up excited for work? Believe it or not, some people are eager to get to work because they truly enjoy it! It is common for people to dream of having a career that involves their life passions! I can only imagine how awesome it would be to work at Sanrio Headquarters! Seeing those adorable characters throughout your workday can only bring about big smiles! Unfortunately, Sanrio cannot hire all of us Hello Kitty enthusiasts, but there are endless ways to incorporate sweet kitty happiness into your own jobs. So even after a rough, exhausting day, Hello Kitty is there to pick up your spirits!

For kitties who do not work but attend school, you most probably have more freedom to equip yourself with kitty goodies and accessories. I Love Hello Kitty Day!

           Have you ever thought about how holidays come about? What about even celebrating your own special day for anything or anyone specifically important to you? I am surprised there is not already a designated day for Hello Kitty enthusiasts to proclaim their love to the adorable, beloved character! Make Your Own Holiday Day is the purr-fect opportunity to appoint today as I Love Hello Kitty Day!

           How many of you can proudly claim to have a Hello Kitty shrine or museum in your homes? Maybe your Hello Kitty collection is a Sanrio in itself! My paws are definitely shamelessly raised! In the Straits Times lifestyle article, two kitty enthusiasts describe how their homes are ferociously decorated from floor-to-ceiling in Hello Kitty! Wallpapers, toilet paper, cupboards shaped in HK’s face, kitchen appliances, etc.! If you can think of it, Hello Kitty is probably on it!

            Madam Connie Sim, who lives in Katong, states she is not even a Hello Kitty fanatic, but that her friends are the true fans and she simply loves pink and white colors! However, that did not stop the 60-years young homeowner from spending $1.2 million on her Hello Kitty inspired house renovations! Friends describe Madam Sim’s home as a Hello Kitty museum, which most of us can easily relate! “Some of these I’ve never used, but I just like collecting them. I don’t ask the price, I just buy,” says Madam Sim. How many of you kitties are guilty of easily overspending on Hello Kitty merchandise?  My kitty-shopping motto, “Sorry…not sorry!”
         

           In the 2nd interview, Suyenny Lo, a 36-year old housewife, shares how she carried on her childhood love for Hello Kitty to the influence of her home décor and furnishings even under certain restrictions from her husband. As with any kitty enthusiast, Suyenny enjoys sharing her Hello Kitty home with friends and visitors. She states, "I faithfully recorded every single Hello Kitty purchase into a notebook and felt very pleased when I flipped through the pages and looked at all my purchases." Personally, I do not know if there is enough notebook pages to keep up with my forever growing HK collection! How many of you kitties can agree?!

            For those who see us as obsessed Hello Kitty lunatics wasting money on the questionable feline-like girl who apparently is not a cat, I would have to respectfully disagree like Madam Sim. According to the fellow Hello Kitty collector, Madam Sim states, "I'm not throwing money away. This is going to last me for many years, beyond the life of a million-dollar sports car." Meow it out loud, kitties! Happy I Love Hello Kitty Day to you all!

Everyday you are making sacrifices as you encounter various situations and decisions. All around you, there are people doing the same as well. Sometimes, they are not as noticeable because we are accustomed to just viewing those people as simply going about their everyday routine. Take a moment to see the police patrolling to make the streets safer, firemen rushing to an emergency, health professionals providing that caring touch for patients, soldiers fighting for our freedom, and beyond! Through these many sacrifices, those people, including kitties like you, are making a difference in the world and Hello Kitty is no exception!

Hello Kitty Online (HKO) is a web-based interactive community incorporated with gaming and social media capabilities. Most importantly, it also provides an opportunity for kitty fans to come together around the world and make a kittiful impact through numerous charity events! HKO launched Food for Friends as its first charity, in which every virtual food item contributed by the kitty players translated into a real monetary donation of $12, 273 to UNICEF and the Asian Youth Orchestra. With much success, Food for Friends 2 was organized to help victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and HKO was able to contribute $18, 000 to Doctors Without Borders. HKO continues to create in-game events in order to contribute to charitable causes.

         Sanrio had previously also specially designed limited edition tote bags and joined with popular brands, such as Loungefly, Dylan's Candy Bar, Mighty Fine, and TY in a collaborative effort to raise funds for American Cross disaster reliefs, such as the 2011 Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief and 2013 Philippines Typhoon Relief. The success that comes out of the union of kitty fans is aMEWzing!

         Kitty fans are able to be a part of a positive movement with a kawaii flair! I love being able to connect with fellow HK enthusiasts and share our kitty-crazed stories despite being geographically challenged from each other. Hello Kitty’s kindness and friendship inspires me to want to share her love and spread her happiness to others! Hello Kitty can be incorporated into peoples’ lives through new surprising ways that continues to capture the hearts of forever and new fans. How has Hello Kitty inspired you to make a positive change?

Hello Kitty's International Impact

           Hello Kitty first appeared on a vinyl coin purse in 1974 and recently celebrated her big 40th birthday last November. With the recent celebration of International Women’s Day on Sunday March 8, Hello Kitty’s global influence on the female population cannot go unnoticed! One interesting thing to note is how Hello Kitty appeals to a large audience of all ages.

          Young girls who fall in love with Hello Kitty grow up into their twenties, thirties, and beyond still adoring the feline character. I, myself, am proudly one of those HK forever fanatics! For me, Hello Kitty has been a companion through numerous childhood memories up until now while I am trying to achieve my adulthood milestones.  In all ways possible, I incorporate HK into my life because of the confidence and positive support she symbolizes to me.

          Hello Kitty’s life philosophy is based on friendship, but it is no surprise that her large-scale popularity invites controversy. Ironically, all the roaring discussions surround the absence of Hello Kitty’s mouth.  Vocal feminists claim that the lack of a mouth portrays how the role of women, especially of Asian culture, should be obedient, docile, and SILENT. However, I think this perception of cultural behavior could be misunderstood and exaggerated to false claims, but everyone is entitled to their opinion! What do you think about Hello Kitty’s missing mouth?

          When asked, Hello Kitty’s head designer Yuko Yamaguchi explains that Hello Kitty does not have a mouth because it allows kitty fans to project their feelings onto her. Hello Kitty can personally and uniquely be whoever and whatever to you. According to Yuko, “women feel like Hello Kitty listens.” Verbal communication can go a long way, but nonverbal communication meows volumes as well! Regardless of all the catfight drama over Hello Kitty’s mouth, the most important consideration should be focused on Sanrio’s positive intention behind Hello Kitty’s creation. No kitty can deny that Hello Kitty is the cat’s meow!

Hina Matsuri (Girls' Day)

Happy Girls' Day Kitties!


        Today marks the Japanese holiday, Hina Matsuri, also known as Doll's Festival or Girls' Day, in which people pray for the health and happiness for young girls. Families celebrate this occasion by displaying their Japanese dolls adorn in costumes resembling the imperial court on a tiered platform covered in a red drape. Originally, the doll display was used to chase away evil spirits and bad fortune. At the end of Hina Matsuri, the dolls are taken down immediately in order to avoid problems of marrying off the young females in the future.

        So, take the time to send some positive thoughts and happy wishes for your adorable girl kitty in your life! Why not make her day with a little kitty surprise? Instead of using traditional Japanese dolls, I had to kittify my doll display as seen in the photo! No Fairy Cat-Tale: Hello Kitty for Men

Once a upon a Hello Kitty,

                  Hello Kitty is a sweet, adorable cat who knows how to accessorize an iconic red hair bow! Unfortunately, that childhood image of Hello Kitty was shattered for most when the cat news was out of the bag.  We all heard the saddening news that, “Hello Kitty is not a cat.” While curating the kittylicious Japanese American National Museum’s exhibit, “Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty,” anthropologist Christine Yano, who had been studying the Hello Kitty movement, was corrected by Sanrio on her description of Hello Kitty as a cat. According to Hello Kitty’s creators, Sanrio stated that Hello Kitty’s real name is Kitty White. She is a little British girl who ironically owns a pet cat named Charmmy Kitty. The cat-tastrophic news made everyone cough up a furball and say “what?!”

However, moving on from that fairy cat-tale, I noticed another popular misconception that had not been brought up on the cat’s discussion table. Most people believe Hello Kitty is just for the feminine feline population, but that is completely false and fishy! During a panel with head designer Yuko Yamaguchi at Hello Kitty Con 2014, she announced that Sanrio’s next ambitious project is to create Hello Kitty merchandise geared towards the male audience. Is your man “MAN” enough for Hello Kitty?

For this year’s Valentine’s Day, Sanrio had launched a Hello Kitty inspired men’s clothing line by collaborating with the savvy Japanese department store chain Lumine creating Hello Kitty Men x Lumine Man Shibuya located in the renown pop culture youth district. Three fashion pieces include a white creamy hooded sweatshirt covered in signature blue bows, blue opera shoes resembling loafers, and a classic denim jacket with a subtle bow embedded on the chest. According to Forbes, the merchandise was released in limited quantities and sold out completely! Japan does strongly incorporate the kawaii or “cute” culture into their lifestyle so it is no surprise that many Japanese men would be attracted to this new brand! Hopefully, Sanrio continues to build on Hello Kitty Men in order to capture the approval of all male shoppers across the world! Would you kittify your man’s wardrobe?

It is amazingly revolutionary that Sanrio is attempting to promote an androgynous image of Hello Kitty! Sanrio is providing an atmosphere where girls and boys, women and men are welcome to love her all the same and incorporate Hello Kitty into their lifestyle in their own unique way so that we may all live happily ever after in Hello Kitty love!
